As news of the announced Oasis reunion dominated the music headlines, rumors swirled about the potential reunion of the Smiths. The band’s guitarist Johnny Marr quickly snuffed those rumors out with a dismissive response to a fan’s hopeful tweet. “If Oasis can do it The Smiths can too (I’m delusional),” the fan wrote, which Marr replied to by sharing a photo of right-wing UK Parliament member Nigel Farage, apparently alluding to Morrissey’s far-right politics as being a reason why the reunion will never happen. Now, Morrissey claims that the Smiths could have actually reunited in 2025, but Marr dismissed the offer.

Morrissey wrote this brief post on his website titled “War Is Old, Art Is Young,” claiming, “In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025. Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer. Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.” Marr has yet to publicly respond to Morrissey’s reunion claims. (Consequence of Sound)
